2019 Class Descriptions

 

January 12: Cloud Computing

Are you confused by all the different cloud-based services? This class will help you understand how using the cloud will benefit you! We will begin with a short review of the Cloud Services offered and how they have changed in the last year or so. It is a great advantage to use iCloud for syncing data, storing data, and moving files easily  between devices using iCloud Drive. We want to understand the differences between each of these functions. We will review the questions each of us should ask and know the answers to when thinking about storage. We will have time to explore the other Cloud services offered by DropBox, Microsoft, Google and Amazon and see how they differ. Other apps that use the cloud will be reviewed and demonstrated. You should bring your own devices, have downloaded the cloud apps that are of interest to you and have your questions to get answered if I can!

January 26: iMovie

Movies are fun, and making them is easy on Apple devices! Learn how to record and create a movie using your Mac or iOS device and share it with friends and family. This three hour session will begin, develop and (almost) produce your own movie. Differences in capability between the MacOS and iOS will be highlighted. We will also explain the new Apple app called CLIPS and why one would want to use it. You should bring your own device, as well as your own video clips, music and stills to incorporate. Let’s have fun!

February 2: Mojave Session 1

Detailed introduction to the newest operating system for the Mac, this two-part class will cover all the new and changed features of macOS 10.14 Mojave and show you how to use them! System Requirements, we will review new Finder features such as Dark Mode, Dynamic Desktop, Stacks and Gallery View. Will review features and usage of the new Mac Apps, News, Stocks, Voice Memos and Home.

February 9: Mojave Session 2

System Requirements, the new Face Time which allows up to 32 people in a video chat, the all new Mac App Store, the new Safari including new security features such as passwords and data protection and the new macOS Software Update Process.

February 16: Entertainment

The Entertainment class is an introductory class on iTunes, streaming services, “cutting the cord”, and various media apps. Attendees will learn how to transfer music from CDs to iTunes, create playlists, transfer those playlists to iPhones and iPads, download and pay for music and videos and get audiobooks. Popular apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Podcasts, YouTube and premium pay services will be demonstrated and discussed. There may even be some workarounds discussed of recording hard-to-find material and ringtones.

February 23: iOS 12 for iPad and iPhone – Session 1

In this class we will look at how the new operating system iOS 12 impacts apps and the management of the iPhone and the iPad. We will review commonly used apps and updates for gestures, Notifications, Control Center, Do Not Disturb, Camera, Photos, Safari, App Switching, Typing, and more.

March 2: iOS 12 for iPad and iPhone – Session 2

In this class we will further look at how the new operating system iOS 12 affects apps and the management of the iPhone and the iPad. We will continue to include more commonly used apps and updates for Siri Shortcuts, Passwords, Controlling Screen Time, Messages, Battery, FaceTime, Voice Memos, Books, Auto Updates, the new Measure app, and more.

March 16: Photos in Mojave and iOS 12

We will review Photos features in Mojave on the Mac. We will also demonstrate Photos features in iOS12 on the iPad and the iPhone. We will look at the Camera updates and how to place items in the Photos App. We will cover how to manage photos, view photos, search photos, edit photos, sync photos, store photos, and share photos.

March 23: Protection and Security

This class will cover all aspects of keeping yourself safe while using your computer and devices. We will review managing passwords and how to use the 1Password app to help with password management, we will cover safe internet practices and procedures, and you will learn how to detect fraudulent attempts to assess your personal information.

    1. There is no concern this year about space. The new venue can accommodate nearly all our Membership in one sitting!
      You will be able to register shortly. We are making sure every form will work smoothly.
