JAN 15 THE KNOWLEDGE EXPLOSION (MARTY DORIO) 

How to access and use the internet resources for fun and learning. This course offers an in depth look at the various techniques to find information on the internet. We will explore how to use Safari to learn and enhance our lifestyles. 

Did you ever wonder how to find out how to do a certain task or procedure or to solve a particular problem? Did you ever wonder how a certain surgery is done or what is involved in a particular operation or treatment? Did you ever try to solve a problem and not know where to start looking for answers? Was there ever a subject you wanted to learn more about but did not know how to take it? Was there ever a place you wanted to visit but could not for any number of reasons?

In this session, we will delve into how to use services offered  by Apple, and Google to address these questions and more.

FEB 5 CLOUDS (MARTY DORIO)

CLOUDS AND HOW TO USE THEM

This class will update the students on changes to the various cloud offerings since last year’s introduction. What the changes are and who provides them. Which ones are more “user friendly”? 

We will then discuss how to use iCloud storage in our everyday lives. Backup is important nowadays. How is that different from syncing?  How does1Password use clouds to store our important information?

How do we use clouds to store documents in Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite. What are the differences between the three main players: Apple, Microsoft and Google?

FEB 12 iOS 11 FOR iPHONE  (MITCH BRYARS)

iOS 11 for iPhone

The focus of the course will be on the iPhone. 

These courses will cover new features in Siri, iCloud, Notes, Safari, the keyboard, Messages, Maps, Mail, News, Photos, the camera, and the App Store. The redesigned Control Center, screen recording on the iPhone, marking up screenshots, and the new Files app will be reviewed. In addition, unique features on the iPhone X will be explored.

FEB 19 iOS11 FOR iPAD (MITCH BRYARS)

iOS 11 for iPad

The focus of the course will be primarily for iPad.

These courses will cover new features in Siri, iCloud, Notes, Safari, the keyboard, Messages, Maps, Mail, News, Photos, the camera, and the App Store. The redesigned Control Center, screen recording on the iPad, marking up screenshots, and the new Files app will be reviewed.

FEB 26 SOCIAL MEDIA (JEFF AND CHRISTIANNE BOHR)

Social media is a great way to connect to family, friends and people with shared interests. Introduce yourself to the world of social media, and the apps that are used most. Learn how to create an account, connect to others and post your own media. Will review Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, Skype and Pinterest.

MARCH 5 Photos and iMovie for the iPhone and iPad in iOS 11 (MARILYN VON SEGGERN)

We will review camera features as well as taking, viewing, sharing, managing, and editing photos and videos in iOS 11.

MARCH 12 Photos and iMovie for the Computer in High Sierra (MARILYN VON SEGGERN)

We will review features in Photos and iMovie in High Sierra on the Mac including viewing, managing, editing, and sharing photos and videos. In addition we will look at options for creating movies and projects in both programs.

MARCH 19 PROTECTION (JEFF BOHR)

The threats to privacy and to your financial assets have never been greater, and they are only going to get worse. Learn how to best protect your computer, devices and data, and learn how to manage passwords, the keys to keeping your data private. We will review best practices for Internet safety, password management and computer and device management. The balance between privacy and convenience is an individual choice that must be made with care. Arm yourself with the information to determine which balance is right for you.

How to access and use the internet resources for specific cases

This class continues NMUG’s offering of how to use the internet to find specific information for various “projects” that we might undertake. We will integrate the use of Safari, iMusic, iTunes University, YouTube and Podcasts in SPECIFIC case studies for projects such as genealogy, memoir writing, trip presentations to learn and enhance our lifestyles. Did you ever wish you could post a movie or photo montage that would be seen by a group or just your own family?

The material in this session will be presented as case studies, but those studies will be applicable to a broader range than the singular study. By the way, if there is a PARTICULAR project you’d like to be developed during class and  want to know how to do or find, email Marty and let him know.
